Customer Background
Omantel is the leading telecom provider in Oman and a regional leader in the Middle East
Omantel provides fixed, wireless, and broadband services. It leads the market with innovation and continuously delivers superior customer experience. Omantel is the first operator to launch 5G for fixed and mobile in the region and is on track to deliver full 5G coverage by the end of 2023.
Customer Opportunity
Oman’s telecom market is at a point of inflection. With the launch of 5G, new products and services will increase competition with a third entrant into the Oman telecom market. Additionally, the economy is sluggish as a result of the global post-pandemic slowdown.
Omantel made the best use of its position and prepared the organization for future growth, revenue diversification, and expansion towards the enterprise domain. Its future growth requires a robust yet flexible foundation — a platform that can innovate and deliver value quickly to delight customers and surprise the competition.
With Optiva as our partner, we feel confident to execute our digital transformation strategy and play our role in the Oman 2040 vision.
Optiva’s cloud-native technology leadership and automation framework will allow us to launch services faster as we embark on the next phase of our growth with 5G and new digital services.

Solution
Omantel uses Optiva Charging Engine for its fixed, VPN, and mobile customers. Our partnership began in 2012, and since then, Optiva has handled all real-time charging requirements for the operator with our convergent charging.
To offer a consistent cross-multi-play customer experience and prepare for 5G opportunities, Omantel required a strong platform to scale, ship products at speed, and provide innovative monetization for 5G opportunities.
By the end of 2021, Omantel upgraded Optiva Charging Engine to cloud-native architecture on Omantel’s private cloud. As a result, Optiva’s evergreen platform upgrades every six months and is ready to monetize 5G use cases.
Omantel’s digital transformation for a 5G-ready future
The cloud-native upgrade supports new business models for 5G monetization, and it utilizes Optiva Test Framework to reduce future deployment time by up to 70%. As a result, Omantel will gain platform capabilities to deliver new customer-centric services and expand its customer base across consumer, fixed, broadband, and enterprise market segments supported by Optiva’s platform.
True converged, multi-play experience: A global trend evident in Oman is the demand for consistent digital customer experience across all telecom services. Omantel, a multi-play leader, has been delivering this for many years and strives to enhance it with rise of 5G, which offers opportunities in the consumer and enterprise segments and partner ecosystems.
Speed, scale, and innovation: The 5G market is expected to be highly competitive as competition comes from the telecom industry and technology giants like Amazon, Microsoft, and Google. Omantel’s plan for innovative offerings and shipping them at speed will be critical to thrive in this market.
5G ready: 5G comes with opportunities in three major segments: (a) enhanced mobile broadband, which is a moneymaker for telecoms, (b) enterprise, which holds significant growth potential and can be a major revenue contributor, (c ) platforms, which are opportunities for telecoms to go beyond connectivity and evolve into tech companies.
